Survey IVF Parents to Tell the Kid

The majority of parents who conceived through assisted reproduction plan to tell their children about the design, but they are often unsure how to go about it, a British study suggests.

The study focused on couples who had conceived using their own eggs and sperm, with a conventional in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).

A pregnant woman is made of eggs with sperm in a laboratory dish and then incorporated into its midst a few days later. A final form of IVF ICSI that can be used whenever a problem with the number, function or quality of sperm from the man, it includes the injection of a single sperm into an egg without deviation, which not ups the chances it will be successfully pregnant.

In the new study, researchers found that among parents of 181 to 5 and 6 years old who had been conceived through IVF or ICSI standard, or more planned to tell their children about the design or have already done so.

Overall, 16 percent of mothers and 21 percent of fathers were undecided on the issue, while a handful of fathers -- but no mothers -- said they would never tell their children about the design.

The survey also revealed that most parents wanted to tell their children about their conception, there was some uncertainty as to when and how to approach the subject. The vast majority of parents who planned to tell their children said they would like the help of some "child-friendly" literature.
